Let’s face it, some people just don’t like crowds! I for one, find it difficult to learn in a group setting. With my nature photography private tuition you don’t have to worry about crowds. You get me all to yourself for whatever period you book. You will find me rather informal in my approach to teaching but this doesn’t mean you will be given less of my knowledge, quite the opposite. I freely shares my knowledge about all things nature photography. The environment and the creatures which share our planet.

Immerse your creative passion and propel your creative potential in nature photography. Learn the basics or new skills. Learn the techniques of professional nature photographers and take your nature photography to a whole new level!

Let go and treat yourself to a nature photography 1:1 private tuition session. You will find I’m passionate about nature and photographing nature and wanting to share this passion with you. This is a investment in learning new skills about nature photography and learning about the natural world.

Each session includes

  • Half Day nature photography 1:1 private tuition sessions are normally four (4) hours duration. Morning or afternoon tea is provided.
  • Follow up support (if required) will be provided as most sessions are full of new information and easily forgotten in the short term.

Nature photography 1:1 private tuition sessions are tailored to your requirements.

No matter what level of photography you are at, you will gain a greater understanding of nature photography throughout your session. I will work with you to help you achieve your goals and a greater appreciation of nature. You can choose a location and a time which suits you or I can suggest possible locations to suit your aims, the choice is yours. During the session if you have questions I can’t answer on the spot I will tell you and endeavour to find the answer for you.

Nature photography 1:1 private tuition can cover topic such as

  • Exposure theory
  • Equipment selection
  • Bird photography
  • Close up photography
  • Waterfall and cascade photography
  • Landscape photography
  • Waterfowl photography
  • Astrophotography
  • Digital darkroom workflow
  • Image processing

If you need help with organising your images or other digital darkroom advice, I can help you with some guidance in this area. After you have had a successful session in the field you still need to came back to your computer and process your images. Do you find this is all a little daunting and you sit there scratching your head about what you need to do? That’s ok if you do, we have all been there at some stage but the digital darkroom and processing your images is a big part of being a photographer in the digital world. You need to take charge early on, otherwise you will probably never look at or share your photos. I can give guidance in both Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and make some suggestions about workflow, processing, storage and other aspects of the digital darkroom.

Please understand, on the day of your tuition, I can’t guarantee we will always find subjects or there is perfect light to photograph, this is one of the reasons nature photography can be so hard to undertake, we can’t control nature. I will however endeavour to give you the best opportunities to photograph your subjects.

Spent a great afternoon with James. He’s very knowledgeable and has a great easy going teaching style. He took the time to understand what I wanted to get out of the session and adapted to suit. Would Highly Recommend

Thank you James for a fantastic day. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and learnt so much, you are a very patient man. :-) Lunch with a real tablecloth took me by surprise (nice touch). I’ll get out and practice some of the things you taught me. At the moment I’m going through the camera settings and setting things up properly. Next I shall buy a good field book and start to learn more about wildlife, then I’ll buy a good tripod as you recommended. I promise I will use it! LOL

Thanks you again James and I’ll tell my friends to book some tuition with you.

    Highly Recommended.

Enjoyed my day with James during our PT and I learn’t a lot about the things I thought I knew. One thing I liked about James is that he taught me to think about the photography not just the photograph and to think more about the creatures we tried to photograph. James really opened my eyes to the ethics of nature photography, something I never gave a lot of thought about before. I would recommend James to anyone that wants to learn about nature photography in a good solid fundamental approach. James also is very easy to talk with and he can teach things in a funny but educational way which is easy to understand.

Thank you James. Since changing over to Lightroom, I have been completely confused as to how to use it! Your private tuition session on how to use Lr made it so easy to understand importing, filing, editing and exporting, and I am now in complete control over it. Thank you for your patience and easy to understand approach to tutoring.

Just spent the day with James learning how to use my camera and getting into photographing wildlife. James was very good at explaining how to setup my camera and what gear he recommends for my budget. The provided lunch was nice…. James even provides a table cloth …nice touch James! I like his lay backed style, very friendly and helps make you relaxed. I would recommend James as I learnt so much. Thank you James for a great day.

I recently had a one on one tutorial with James on macro photography. I learnt a lot. I particularly appreciated Jame’s thoughtful approach to the subject and his preference to focus on ‘reading’ the light and understanding the technique rather than rushing into taking lots of photos. Would recommend.

James’ passion for the beauty and protection of our wonderful flora and fauna shows not only through his photography, but also for the way he encourages others to see it. His stories are endless, and his knowledge amazing! Being mentored by such a patient, gentle, knowledgeable and talented man was such a privilege, and an experience i will long treasure.

After seeing James Doyle on television a few weeks ago, I booked a day of tuition with him to learn how to use my camera better. James was very patient with me as I fumbled my way along. We started with the way to set up my camera and James taught me some tricks I never would have thought of; like which type of memory card I should use with my camera. James is full of information about photography which he shared with me in a way I could understand even with my limited skills. It was a long day and the picnic lunch was a feast, which I thoroughly enjoyed in the forest. I would highly recommend James if you are interested in learning about nature photography as he is easy to talk with, patient, knowledgeable and a genuinely friendly person to speed time with. James is such a gentle soul when he is talking about nature and photography, which is how I saw him on television, a genuine lover of nature and his photography! Highly Recommended!

James has a great sense of humour and doesn’t take himself too seriously. What he does take seriously is helping you succeed in your nature photography and appreciation of the natural world.

Enjoyed my 1/2 day lesson with James. He is full of useful information about nature photography and nature in general. He is laidback and friendly but more than happy to share his knowledge. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in nature photography or just looking for a day out in nature. Thanks James for a great day!

I recently have had one on one tuition with James covering Lightroom 4 and how to use this software program to get the most out of my pictures. James was a very patient teacher and I came away from the event with a higher level of knowledge to enable myself to start working on my pictures. I highly recommended James to anyone who is interested in advancing their knowledge in photography whether it is of a practical or theoretical nature.

Absolutely great day with James. We covered many things about photography and the digital darkroom. What I found refreshing about James is that if he doesn’t have an answer he admits it and will try and find a answer for you. Lunch was great! :-) Highly Recommended.

Spent the morning with James learning how to do macro shots (or as James would describe it, close ups). I thought I know a fair bit already but I will admit I know only a few things about close ups. James is just a wealth of knowledge, I guess from his years of being a photographer. Nevertheless had a great morning and learnt many things from James. Highly recommended!
